Abu Dhabi Tour with Emirates Palace Dinner
Pickup: We got picked up from our Dubai hotel in a van and spent 30+ minutes picking up others (driving further away from Abu Dhabi) before transferring to the bus. We passed right by our hotel again an hour later on the way, so it was a little annoying that we weren’t picked up later. On the way, our guide gave us an overview of the day’s stops and some historical background of the UAE. He said everything in English and Italian based on the 15 people in our group. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: Amazing! You need to visit this beautiful mosque. The guide provided appropriate dresses and headscarfs as needed. For men that means shoulders covered and long pants. For women that means pants (not leggings) or a long skirt, long sleeves (to the wrist), and a scarf to cover your head. The guide took us inside and gave us some information, took pictures for us, then let us go on our own for a bit. I would have liked to spend a little more time here and cut out some of the later stops. Next, we went into Abu Dhabi and did a nice photo stop along the water. Heritage Village: We did a quick tour through the museum. There wasn’t much to it and I could have skipped this stop completely. The view from the beach was nice though, so that’s where we spent our free time. There seemed to be some disorganization around what time we should meet back for lunch, so we didn’t want to wander off.
Lunch: We were the only people in our group who had booked the Emirates Palace Lunch, which was awkward at first, but the lunch was totally worth it. While the rest of the group stayed behind to eat at the restaurant at the Heritage Village (their lunch price not included), we were taken by the guide to the opulent Emirates Palace hotel. He escorted us in to the restaurant and told us what time to meet back in the lobby. The lunch was the most lavish and delicious buffet I’ve ever had. Just beware that drinks aren’t included, so our large bottle of water cost $10. Regardless, we thoroughly enjoyed our fancy and romantic lunch, I only wish I could have eaten more. When we met back up at the front door, the rest of the group was allowed in to take a look at the lobby (since we had eaten lunch there, the regular tour doesn’t normally go in). We enjoyed going outside and taking pictures on the beautiful front steps of the hotel and buildings across the street.Date Market: More like an ordinary store where we were given one regular date and one chocolate covered date. They were good but seemed a little out of the way for what it was. No one wanted to buy anything so luckily this was just a quick stop.
Ferrari World: An extended photo stop that was completely pointless since we didn’t have tickets to go inside the exhibit. My husband and I spent this time going to Starbucks and wishing we could leave sooner.
Overall, we had a nice day since the mosque and Emirates Palace were amazing, but I would have preferred a shorter tour with just those things.
